Scores of Students Infected Hepatitis A


Artikelbagus.com - As many as 73 students of a vocational school in Depok, West Java, are still under outpatient treatment programs due to the infection of Hepatitis A. 

Depok health authority said four students are still under treatment in a hospital. It was reported that the total number of the infected students reaches 90.

"13 students are recovered," said Hardianto, spokesperson of Depok Health Agency.

The Health Agency earlier has conducted medical check-ups over 100 students and teachers. The test concluded that most of the examined were Hepatitis A positive.

Hepatitis A is an acute infectious disease of the liver caused by the hepatitis A virus usually spread the fecal-oral route; transmitted person-to-person by ingestion of contaminated food or water or through direct contact with an infectious person.

"Washing hands before taking any meal is one among many options," he said.

The initial break of the disease in the school was found among students of third grade. A number of students said they got fever and nausea. The symptoms had been going on for more than two weeks.
